Definition

There are 7 vertebras in the cervical (neck) part of our vertebral column, while there are 5 vertebras at the lumbar level. There are cartilaginous tissues, called disc, between these bones. These discs not only contribute to mobility of the vertebral column, but it also ensures transmission of the loads through the vertebral column in a balance manner. Cervical and lumbar disc hernia is the term for diseases that are secondary to deformity, degeneration and bulging of the discs that function to absorb shocks.
